Run away from any job handled by JobFox. They supposedly screen applicants. They want you to spend 30 minutes to an hour filling out information about the info on your resume and then they will stick your resume in a big bin and probably try to sell the info to others unrelated to the job you were applying for. I DID NOT finish filling out all of the info because after 20+ minutes I thought it was ridiculous. That hasn't stopped them from emailing me several times.

Run away from monster.com -- Just heard from a recruiter on LinkedIn that a lot of employers are asking NOT to be shown anybody who has a profile on monster since a high percentage of people hired of monster leave the job within 6 months... So not only are you not getting a job with monster anyhow, it might harm your chances of getting a job elsewhere!

I like Craig's list for the easiness of it, but yes,the anonymity of employers is unnerving. I too ask now if they can tell me the name of their company or steer me to their website before sending my resume and guess what, out of all the emails I have sent requesting said information, only one responded with the info I requested. Discouraging.

I'm not sure how much I really like Craigslist. You've got the typical scammers that attempts to rip people off for the user base. Do not get me wrong there are benefits to Craigslist, but do the goods really outweigh the bad?

Employers are the losers. I have 10 years of experience in my field, I live in a city of peers (we all meet at networking events etc). I am very qualified for numerous posts on craigslist, but I wouldn't apply to a single one without a company name, in fact I have stopped going to Craigslist where this is an epidemic.
There is no freaking way I would send a resume to an anonymous poster as a method of controlling who knows I am looking for work, and what companies I apply to. Much much harder for junior applicants I realize, but for senior experienced workers- companies are losing with this behavior.

I like the incomplete resume idea, but too much energy for no gain. Perhaps if I was a fly on the wall :-)

MGA is a company that posts job opportunities that do not exist for the purpose of performing an assessment on an individual. This assessment leads to a hard sell where they want you to pay a fee to assist in your job search. If you do not sign-up they make you feel that you will never get anywhere in the business world.

What their marketing equates to is a "bait and switch". They offer jobs online for the purpose of selling you executive career services. I believe all of their postings should be removed as they are acting fraudulently and they should be fined for unacceptable business practices. DO NOT APPLY TO MGA JOBS. THEY DO NOT EXIST AND THeY WILL WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY SHOULD YOU SIGN UP. As an employer I would never use their services!!!

Here's another one that sounds suspicious, which I heard about through (where else?) CareerBuilder! Actually, since my last post, CareerBuilder has had more legit job listings, but they still send me info on this kind of thing:

Process sales orders, data entry for Wal-Mart, Target. $45+/Hr

Job Description
Dear Entrepreneur,

The only problem with putting up a website like this right in the middle of a RECESSION is that too many people will respond.

I can’t really blame ‘em.

With over 584,542 hard-working Americans losing their jobs last month alone, who in their right mind wouldn’t like the opportunity of owning a highly profitable home-based Internet business?

Think about it… 24 hour earning potential. Imagine earning money while you sleep, are on vacation or even sick! Not to mention more family time, no commuting… and the excitement of owning your own business!

The power of being able to make money with NO employees, NO office and NO hassles.

Who WOULDN'T Want A Piece Of That Pie?

But you and I both know it’s not as easy as it sounds! In fact, there are 3 major road blocks that kill most people’s hopes of becoming an internet entrepreneur:

You’ve got to figure out what you’re going to sell. If you want to make money online you’ve got to have a hot product… what’s it gonna be?

You’ve got to figure out HOW you’re going to sell it. Do you know how to build a website? Do you know the difference between php, asp, cold fusion, perl...? Sure, you could hire all this out… but are you willing to risk tens of thousands of dollars or more on an unproven idea?

EXPERIENCE! Who’s going to show you exactly what to do, starting from the ground up? I guess you could try to learn this own your own, if you don’t mind spending the next 3 years in front of your computer for 18 hours a day.

No Sign-up Fee!

WORK AT HOME PROCESSING DATA ONLINE!

WORK FROM HOME DATA ENTRY JOBS! Earn $3,500-$5,000 Weekly! Guaranteed Paychecks! No Experience Needed! This is a Work at Home Position! Full Time/Part Time Work At Home Positions Available Today!

Requirements Work at home! You must have access to a computer that has an internet connection.

Work from home the days and hours that suit you best - Experience is not needed!

Paid training provided. The most remarkable thing about Work at Home Data Entry Jobs is anyone can make money with it. It doesn't require any special skills, training, education or previous business experience. You only need access to the Internet and basic typing skills. It is the perfect work at home job for stay at home moms, students, home makers, retirees or anyone that is in need of some extra cash. Looking for people who want to work part time or full time and have some experience with any of these industries: sales, customer service, accounting, and admin

Data Entry Work from Home Jobs is available WORLDWIDE and you can start generating HUGE amounts of money with as little as 30 minutes a day.

Job Requirements
Motivated individual that has 2-3 hours a day.

Dedicated to stick with it for months.

I've also noticed that posting my resume on CareerBuilder introduced a whole new species of spam. They generally are from recruiters looking for people to work, usually on commission, for various types of "financial enhancement" schemes. As a rule, I never respond to unsolicited emails, but the information these so-called "firms" supply makes me even more wary. CareerBuilder has had some useful listings in the past that I've sent resumes to, but this recent spate of junk mail - and the fact that most clerical listings on it seem to be only for the U.S. Army or The Right Staff - is leading me to consider closing my account with them.

I've recently visited jobsradar.com and they must have changed their flow. I can now get to job results from the landing page and really like the google map integration, and ability to store my resume and apply to jobs while staying on the site. You might want to reconsider flagging this as a bad job board. I found it useful in my current job search.
